We learned Corset Week starts June 27 thanks to The Lingerie Addict.

We wanted to learn more about it and we read it started back in 1952! It was introduced by the British as a marketing campaign on TV. 

Elizabeth Ewing, in Dress and Undress, wrote (speaking about England): "So prestigious was the corset that in the 1950s the whole nation was alerted to it by the event called National Corset Week. It sounds incredible now, but there was about this time a spate of such weeks, devoted to promoting sales of various items of apparel, including gloves and millinery. It was claimed there were about 1000 shop window displays of corsets in shops and stores all over the country, during the first National Corset week of 1952. 

 Corsets today are much more comfortable and sexier! You don't have to faint in a corset anymore.

Which Leather Do You Prefer Your Thigh High Boots To Be?

Thigh high boots are the rage this season and we decided to add some to our website to give our lingerie shoppers the option of purchasing these sexy thigh high boots. We were curious when we saw pig skin leather on our boots and wanted to explore the differences in leathers offered on the thigh high boots.

We learned that Pigskin leather is obtained from pigs or hogs. It is soft and supple leather with very good durability. It is by far the most popular and versatile leather, which is easily transformed into most current looks of fashion. The pigskin when tanned on the outside produces smooth Napa finish and tanning inside results in a silky suede finish. The natural, lightweight of the skin produces delicate patterns, textures and silky soft naps. Pigskin leather is soft, supple, very dense, tough and durable, stiff and it does shrink.

Patent leather is leather that has been given a high-gloss finish. The original process was developed in 1818 in Newark, New Jersey by inventor Seth Boyden. Patent leather usually has a plastic coating. Patent leather begins life as a superior grade of fine grain leather that undergoes a process to achieve the glossy look that is considered sophisticated. Originally, this was accomplished by applying layers of a linseed oil finish to the leather, gradually creating the sleek appearance. As time went on, the invention of plastics impacted the methods for producing patent leather. Plastic finishes were able to produce effects similar to the application of several treatments with linseed oil, with the advantage of considerably less cost. Over time, the development of synthetic resins further simplified the process and cut production costs even further, making the mass production of patent leather possible.

Characterized by a glass like finish that catches the light, the typical patent leather accessory is a solid black. In addition to the mirror like finish, patent leather is also virtually waterproof, while still retaining a very flexible texture. The visual elements of patent leather have made it a sought after material for all sorts of formal accessories. With almost two centuries of history, patent leather is one type of material that seems to stay in style.

Is Your Lady Frigid?

There may be a reason for that; she may put her stockings in the freezer in order to protect them from tearing.  I know it sounds crazy, but it works. By putting a set of stockings or fishnet stockings in the freezer it makes them last longer as the fibers are resistant to forming runs.  The only other attention that your lovely lady has to have is a pedicure with rounded edges to not have the frustration of a tear in the stockings. Which Color is Sexier, Black or Red?

 Should you choose the Red or the Black lingerie? Which would be more appealing to your partner?

Black is the most popular lingerie color and can make larger women appear smaller. Black tends to represent power, sophistication and style. Black looks good on everyone no matter what hair or eye color someone has.

Recently psychologists Andrew Elliot and Daniela Niesta extended this idea of color stereotypes to the study of sexual attraction. Specifically to see which colors were likely to be associated with sex appeal and would wearing those colors would be attractive to others of the opposite sex? To test their idea they showed men a photograph of moderately attractive women and asked them to rate her attractiveness.  For some the women were wearing red shirts and in other photos the same women wore blue shirts.  The men were more interested in dating the women in the red shirts and indicated they were willing to spend more money on her when she was dressed in red.

Was this a result because of a stereotype men have of women who choose to wear red? To address this they had the women wore the same outfits but stood in front of a red, blue, white, gray or green background. The results showed the men were significantly more attracted to the women when she was against a red background. When asked if the color of her shirt made a difference none rep orted it. This indicates that color influences our judgements in an automatic and primarily nonconscious manner

These studies proved men find the "lady in red" sexually appealing.

Taken these studies together you may consider putting some red on your next date night; it could be red jewelry or red shoes to go along with a black outfit and black lingerie underneath.

How to Wash and Take Care of Your Lingerie

You have just purchased your lingerie and want to make it last, right? Well here a few tips on how to do that.

• It’s a good idea to wash your lingerie before you wear it for the first time for sanitary reasons and to rid the new garments of potential chemical residue as with any article of clothing.

• If you really want to wash your lingerie in the washing machine you need to have a laundry bag first to put them in. You may run them on gentle cycle and add a very mild detergent such as Woolite. Place the laundry bag inside the washing machine once it starts spinning with the detergent. After the cycle is completed remove the laundry bag and carefully unzip and remain the garments from the bag each individually. Lay the individual items between folds of a towel then press out the excess water. You may lay them flat or over a drying rack. You may put the bag itself in the dryer for a brief 10 minutes for future use.

• Do not squash the padding on any items or it could deform the shape. (Push up bras, etc.)

• To hand wash place the items in the sink filled with warm water and a little Woolite (see bottle for amount).  Let them soak for 10-15 minutes to help soften the dirt. You may also gently rub the fabric together to clean away any dirt.  After soaking take each item out carefully not to tangle and rinse with cold water until water runs clear. Do rinse thoroughly as many people do not adhere to this important step. Lay the garments flat on a layer of towels. Press out the excess water and lay flat or over a dryer rack until dry.

• Read all labels carefully for instructions and keep the darks and lights separate.
